The pressure you're under

DFARS 252.204-7012 already binds you. Your SPRS score is already on file, and at some point a prime or an assessor is going to check whether the network behind that score matches the paperwork. CMMC 2.0 Level 2 turns NIST 800-171's 110 controls from a self-attestation into a third-party assessment, and the contractors who pass are the ones whose scope is small, whose documentation is current, and whose evidence exists before anyone asks for it.

Trying to bring an entire 40-person company's network to Level 2 is how budgets die. The engineering answer is an enclave: a scoped boundary where CUI lives, built deliberately, documented as it's built, and kept small enough to defend.

How we engage

We design the enclave and its control implementations, build it, and verify every control against device output, filed control by control into the evidence an assessor expects to open. Where hosting is part of the answer, the enclave runs on single-tenant hardware in a Tier III colocation facility in Southfield, Michigan, on gear we own and operate, with documented physical and logical controls. One accountable party inside the assessment boundary. If you have an MSP, they execute inside their contract and we verify and file the evidence.

What we've actually done

• Scoped a CUI enclave down from "the whole company" to a defensible boundary, cutting the control surface and the assessment cost with it.
• Written the SSP and POA&M as engineering documents that match the running configuration, not aspirational templates.
• Built FIPS-validated VPN access into an enclave, with the certificate numbers documented for the assessor.
• Implemented the physical controls (locked racks, access logs, visitor procedure) that small shops always defer and assessors always check.
• Stood up single-tenant hosted enclaves so contractors could keep CUI off the office network entirely.
