The Lab
Here is where I outline and discuss how I learn, build, and experiment with AI. Tools include real networking gear, open-source software, and the occasional helpful push from models like ChatGPT and Claude.
š Foreword from ChatGPT
āThe future of network management may not be a human with a terminalāit may be an intelligent agent that understands intent, observes traffic patterns in real time, and autonomously resolves anomalies before anyone notices. AI won't replace network engineers. But it might become their closest collaborator.ā
š§ Nate's Reflections
When OpenAI released ChatGPT, I heard an engineerāPhD and CCIEāsay this was the most significant release of technology since the internet itself. I immediately started using it and havenāt stopped since.
From a technology standpoint, it has a depth of knowledge that, while imperfect, shows amazing promiseāand I can confirm, real improvement.
My background: Iāve been in the MSP/VAR/Partner space for the last 10 years as a Network Engineer. I earned a CCNA early on, and since then Iāve worked in networks, firewalls, and troubleshooting environments where mistakes aren't an option. I also love to study. And tinker. And write, explore, make music, and discuss philosophy. AI has joined me in all of itāas enhancement, as partner.
Maybe it fits my personality. I can be intense. And it never yields.
This lab is where Iāll outline the experiments I runāwhat Iām learning, building, and trying. Some of it might be impressive, some of it might break. But Iām here to inform, present, and demonstrate what I think is genuinely cool.
āļø What I'm Working On
- š§ Paramiko-driven automation scripts
- š¤ ChatGPT + Claude prompt tests and comparisons
- š§ RAG setups with open-source models (when the hardware cooperates)
- š Experiments in AI-led troubleshooting workflows
If you're working on anything similar, or just want to challenge what Iām doingāIād love to talk.
